Fall Home Refresh
Yes, I know it's still August but I'm jonesing for the crisp, cool fall air. It's my most favorite time of year, and it also happens to be the perfect time for a home refresh! Here is my 3-step program to get your home ready for the upcoming season.
Step 1: Fall Cleaning
Many people do spring cleanings, but I'm a fan of a good fall clean. We're heading into shorter days where we'll be spending more time inside, so doesn't it make sense to get our homes in order? Besides the typical tasks like cleaning out the fridge and dusting baseboards, be sure to address things like dryer vents and furnace filters if you haven't dealt with these in a bit.
Step 2: Home Project Goals
Sit down and make a list of all the home projects, both big and small, that you've been considering. Now take a look at your list with a realistic eye. What could you accomplish, or at least start, over the next couple of months? Highlight those projects. Next, make a list of the steps you need to take to get them done. If you're considering a larger renovation project, even if you won't tackle it until next year, start the process of interviewing for your contractor, interior designer, or tradespeople now. Professionals often book out and you want to avoid that becoming a roadblock!
Step 3: Seasonal Zhuzh
When you think about fall decor, you might be thinking pumpkins, mums, and corn husks, but since we're just dipping our toe into this new season it's nice to take a more elegant approach. We want to gently transition from the sunny summer days to those cozy fall moments. Deep hues, interesting textures, patinaed metallics, and rich textiles bring some of what's happening outside our front doors, in. Check out a few of my favorite finds!
